"Let's try to keep peace in the family" is a useful phrase. It can be used for good or for evil.
The tantrum works, if you don't throw a lot of tantrums.
Nagging certainly works. I haven't found an effective nag-repelling method, short of homicide–and that's, shall we say? an inelegant solution. I really must learn the technique; if it's the wave of the future, I might as well learn to ride it.
Passive-aggressive methods. Choice of champions.
The threatened boycott, the cold shoulder, non-engagement, shunning. Ah! High school days!
Sabotage. Poison tongue methods. Blackmail.
Cooperating with the other openly and sincerely is a desperate measure. Almost invariably, the other reads it as weakness, and tries to seize the throne.
Best way to control a relationship is to be the only one in it.
